Fuel Lines

The fuel lines carry the fuel from the fuel tank to the fuel injector.

Fuel Pump

A fuel pump does just what you are thinking – It pumps fuel. It moves fuel from the fuel tank through the fuel line to the fuel injectors at the engine block. The fuel pump is normally located inside the fuel tank to prevent vapor lock. However, there are some cars that the fuel pump is located along the fuel line, between the fuel tank and the engine. If the pump in your car is outside the fuel tank, you can see it by peering underneath the vehicle. Using a flashlight, find the fuel tank and the fuel line that runs from the fuel tank toward the front of the car. Somewhere along the fuel line, you will see a round unit and that is the fuel pump.
  • As soon as you turn the ignition key to the ON position, the fuel pump kicks in to prime the fuel system.
  • When the key is moved further to the start position, the fuel pump provides the right amount of fuel at correct pressure.
There are tow main types of fuel pumps.
  • The electrical fuel pump
  • Mechanical fuel pump
You can find out which type your car has by referring to the car owner’s manual.

Tips Corner:
Check your owner’s manual to find the mileage at which it’s recommended that the fuel pump be replaced.

Fuel Tank

The fuel tank stores the petrol, when you pump petrol into your car, you are storing it in the fuel tank. The fuel pump moves the petrol from the fuel tank through the fuel line to the engine block. Along the way, the petrol passes through the fuel filter which removes debris and other impurities.Besides, fuel tank is that it also keeps harmful fumes from escaping to the atmosphere.

Tips Corner:
Now you will remember that it’s not liquid fuel, but fuel vapor (air-fuel mixture) that is injected into the cylinders. The air that is combined with the petrol to form fuel vapor (air-fuel mixture) and then enters the fuel injection system.
